Questions? Answers!

  • Therapy can last anywhere from a few months to several years, depending on the goals and needs of the client.

Many of my individual adult clients come to me to address long-standing patterns and want to do longer-term, depth therapy work. These therapies tend to be longer.

For children, therapy can take six months to a couple of years, depending on a large variety of factors.

I am happy to give you a better estimate during a consultation call or initial visit.

  • I tend to be genuine, grounded, warm, open, curious, present, active and engaged. My approach is collaborative and non-judgemental. I make use of humor and lightness as well as being with my clients as they explore harder emotions and experiences. Children and adult clients describe me as caring, accepting, a good listener and understanding.

Sessions are different for everyone, but in general you can expect to have a space to talk (or, in the case of kids, play) about whatever feels important to you in the moment. I offer questions, comments, and reflections to encourage deeper reflection.

A unique aspect of therapy is that it is two people (or more) working together to explore and make sense of you and your experiences. Ultimately our goal is to understand you (or your child). Increased self awareness opens the door for more honest and authentic engagement in your life and increased agency to be the person you wish to become.

  • Great question and one that I invite you to ask me again on a consultation call.

It is important that you feel safe and comfortable bringing your whole self into the therapy room. I welcome any questions you have in determining if that is possible with me.

I am a white, American-born, cisgender, female-identifying, monolingual English speaker.

I work with people with a wide range of identities including LGBTQ+, straight, BIPOC, white, ethnic and multi-ethnic people, people with disabilities, people with traditional and alternative family and/or relationship structures, spiritual, religious and nonreligious people.

  • There is a parking lot and clients can expect to find a spot close to the entrance of the building. My office is on the first floor, and could be accessed by someone in a wheelchair.

There is a a shared waiting area. There are magazines, children’s books, and a small bin of toys and fidgets. There are two bathrooms. These are wheel-chair accessible, all-gender and large enough to accommodate a parent and child.

In addition to in-person meetings, I see clients virtually over video call. This requires clients to have a private space to meet and a device that has a camera, speaker and a stable internet connection.

If I have a cold and/or if a client requests it, I will wear a KN-95 mask in session. I have masks available for both children and adults to wear if they are feeling sick. We can also switch an appointment to virtual in case of sickness.

There are several sound machines throughout the space that make soft, consistent fan noises. My office is lower scent, however scented cleaning products are sometimes used and people may be wearing scented products in the shared waiting area.

If you have other questions about accessibility, please ask!

  • My office is at 180 Providence Road in Chapel Hill. It is in Eastowne close to the intersection of I-40 and 15-501. There is a map on the “contact me” page.

When we schedule an intake appointment I will send an email with detailed instructions (and photos!) about getting to office.

In addition to in person appointments, I provide telehealth via a secure video platform which is available to anyone in North Carolina.

  • My hours are Tuesday through Friday from 10 AM to 6 PM.

  • I accept Aetna insurance (including the state health plan). I am an out-of-network provider for all insurance companies.

If you have Aetna then you can use your insurance benefits to cover the cost of individual therapy for children and/or adults.

If you have another provider, you may be able to use out-of-network benefits to receive full or partial reimbursement of costs (see next question).

  • Depending on your plan you may receive reimbursement from your insurance company for some or all of your out of pocket costs.

I require payment at the time of service, meaning that you will be responsible for paying my fee up front each time we meet. I will then provide a monthly receipt called a superbill for you to submit to your insurance company. They will then reimburse you directly. The amount they will cover depends on several factors including your individual plan. If you want to learn more, feel free to contact me - I am happy to help!
